Details

From cruising back roads to enjoying all-day epics to getting your feet wet in the racing circuit, Trek's Madone 4.5 does it all. This full-carbon beauty boasts a stiff, light frame that floats up the climbs along with Bontrager's Race Lite oversize carbon fork that provides maximum steering precision. Plus, Bontrager's SSR wheelset cheats the wind, while the Shimano components include a slick-shifting 20-speed drivetrain with the perfect gears to spin up the climbs and powerful dual-pivot brakes for complete control on the way back down. This able roadster also sports a sweet line-up of Bontrager's carbon and aluminum components, and a plush Bontrager seat, too.

Bontrager Race Lite Carbon fork

Bontrager's Race Lite Carbon Fork (left) uses a standard 1 1/8-inch steerer diameter at the top in combination with a 1 1/2-inch bottom diameter to increase fork stiffness and strength. This ingenious design also significantly reduces the weight thanks to its oversize bottom, which allows using a hollow aluminum crown bonded to the carbon legs (as opposed to the solid aluminum crowns found on most traditional forks; shown on the right). Trek's oversize E2 head tube adds strength and stiffness. The result is an unbelievably stiff and super-light front end.

Comments:

This is my first road bike and I am extremely happy with my purchase! I considered going with a cheaper model, but all of the expert opinions told me that do not go cheap on components. This bike has it all with the Shimano 105, carbon frame, and it looks and rides great!

The Carbon Frame bike is so light. If it's your first carbon frame, you'll be amazed at how light, fast, and responsive the bike is. Absorbs all the little bumps in the road. I got it downhill up to 48.5 MPH before hitting the brakes...It's FAST! Enjoy!

      Comments:

After wreking my knees during years of running, soccer and basketball I turned to biking to get my exercise. Saw the sticker shock and decided to buy my first road bike on [@]to see if it was something I really wanted to get into. A year later I was ready to upgrade to one that actually fit me. The guy at Penn was great. I walked into the store ready to buy the 3.1 after doing a fair amount of research but after trying both the 3.1 and 4.5 was blown away by the smoothness, and ease of climbing with the 4.5. That combined with the matte black/blue color and I was sold. 3 months later I'm still beyond happy with my choice.

      Comments:

This bike offers a smooth and fast ride. I use this as my training bike, which is alot more comfortable than my aero bike that I use for competetive racing/riding. The components are sufficient for now, but this is a great carbon frame if you are into upgrading parts.

This bike looks great and performs great. It's such a smooth, quiet bike. Great for long Sat morning rides. If it was as light as a Cervelo, it'd be perfect.

          Comments:

I have put about 2000 miles on my 4.5 since I purchased the bike. I changed the seat out for an ISM adamo road saddle before I rode the bike, so I cannot comment on the stock saddle. The bike is a joy to ride, very responsive and quick to accelerate. I love the built in duotrap for my Ant+ sensor. The matte paint and colors have gotten countless comments (positive) from other cyclists. The only negative comments that I have about this bike concern the brakes and cables. The cables are not stainless steel and they started to show corrosion so I had them replaced. This is probably due to the fact that I live and ride on the west coast of Florida and we have a saltwater environment which is not friendly to anything metal. After 2000 miles the rear brake needed work, so rather than spend the money to try and repair the factory brake assembly I had a set of Ultegra's put on the bike. The Ultegra's were a huge upgrade, the brakes are significantly better than the factory brakes. That being said, I highly recommend this bike. For an entry level carbon bike it has exceeded my expectations. The telling thing for me is that I can go into a bike shop and not want anything else to replace my 4.5. From the ride to the looks, I just love this bike.

          Comments:

I use my Madone 4.5 to train at least 3 times/week. The ride is very comfortable although the seat could be of better quality. The bike is very responsive, feels light, and is a pleasure to ride. Never tire of my madone. I feel I made a great choice!

Bought this as an upgrade form an older Trek and it was well worth the money. The only complaint would be a better seat. After the first ride the stock saddle came off and was replaced.

I purchased the 4.5 Madone as an entry level carbon bike, my first road bike! Just getting into the sport, I couldn't imagine a better bike. This bike is light, fast, easy to shift and very eye catching. Having never owned a road bike before, I couldn't tell you a negitave about this bike. [...]
